If
you haven't seen or driven the new Taurus, you need jump in your car and head
to Team Ford Sales as fast as you can. The all new 2010 Taurus is quite the
looker and will not stay on the lot long.
Ford revamped the
styling and packaging of its full-size sedan and created a more attractive,
more capable competitor in a class that includes top sellers like the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry and Nissan Altima. The new 2010 Ford Taurus comes in
SE, SEL, Limited, and SHO versions. All around, the 2010 Ford Taurus presents
an interesting new shape. The old VW Passat-like roofline is gone, replaced
with a crisper profile that hints at the smaller Ford
Fusion.
The front fenders are pronounced and the roof is lowered, giving the sedan a more
unique stance. Up front it's less than perfect; with a broad upper chrome bar,
three dissimilar painted bars below, a new grille, and wrap-around headlights,
there's a lot to take in at first glance. The rear fenders are most
interesting, with sculpted shoulders and firm, straight character lines playing
off each other in a way no Taurus has ever seen.

Inside,
the Taurus is more focused; defined areas for the driver and front passenger
are marked with a low, long center console. The instrument cluster presents
information to the driver in three, deeply recessed gauges, and lots of
blue-lit gauges and small black buttons are placed with the driver in mind.
Standard Taurus's wear more traditional faux-wood and plastic trim, while the
SHO gets the upgraded sleek black dash trim, and more metallic highlights
inside and out, as well as a trunk lid spoiler, twin chrome exhaust tips, and a
flashy grille. The 2010 Ford Taurus has the
moves to match its trimmer, more sporty looks. It sports a newly revamped
3.5-liter V-6 with 263 horsepower and 249 pound-feet of torque. It moves
smartly, and its acceleration is smooth and plentiful at all sane speeds. The
six-speed automatic's a smooth operator, but paddle shifters (on SEL and
Limited versions) feel a little gimmicky in a big sedan like this. Fuel economy
is impressive, at 18 mpg city, 28 mpg highway for the front-wheel-drive models;
adding all-wheel drive subtracts 1 and 3 mpg, respectively. The 2010 Ford Taurus is a
full-size car, and there's abundant passenger room. Ford had its customers in
mind as well when it constructed the Taurus, the 2010 Ford Taurus is well
equipped with standards, including six airbags; anti-lock brakes; traction and
stability control; automatic high beams; and rain-sensing wipers. An SOS
post-crash alert system is also standard; after an impact that causes airbags
to deploy, the SOS system unlocks all doors, turns on the hazard flashers, and
sounds the horn. This system is similar to the on-star system that Chevy offers
on their vehicles. Another nice feature in the Taurus is the MyKey feature that
lets parents program a specific key fob with restricted vehicle function, such
as maximum speed and maximum radio volume, I'm sure all the parents out there
will be happy with this. The Taurus also comes with the SYNC System. Ford SYNC is a factory-installed, in-car
communications and entertainment system developed by Ford and Microsoft. It is based on
the Microsoft Auto platform. The system is currently
offered on 12 different Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles in North America. Ford SYNC allows drivers
to bring nearly any mobile phone and some digital media players into their vehicle and operate them
using voice commands, the vehicle's steering wheel, or radio controls. SYNC can
even receive text messages and read them aloud using a digitized female voice
"Samantha." SYNC can interpret a hundred or so shorthand messages such as LOL for "laughing
out loud".

The
Taurus also features the new EcoBoost Engine on its models. Ford's EcoBoost
combines direct-injection and turbo charging, resulting in 20% better fuel
economy, 15% lower CO2 emissions and better driving performance. The EcoBoost technology is used on affordable 4- and
6-cylinder engines which use regular gasoline. Derrick Kuzak Fords
Vice-President had this to say of the system "EcoBoost is meaningful
because it can be applied across a wide variety of engine types in a range of
vehicles, from small cars to large trucks. Compared with the current cost of
diesel and hybrid technologies, customers in North America can expect to recoup
their initial investment in a 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine through fuel savings
in approximately 30 months." All in all this means that the 3.5 liter twin-turbo
V6 in the 2010 Ford Taurus will produce 340 hp and more than 340 lb-ft of
torque, the kind of performance you would normally associate with a V8.
Today's
society is extremely concerned with safety in our vehicles and the Taurus
started out on a good note. In the same month it went on sale, the 2010 Taurus
won the "Top Safety Pick" designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The Taurus earned the highest possible score, "Good," in front, side
and rear-impact tests performed by the Institute. A number of optional safety
features are offered, including a blind-spot warning system, a cross-traffic
warning system (which warns the driver of approaching cars when reversing and
is quite useful in crowded parking lots), and a rearview camera.
Another
question buyers often have is about the warranty packages these vehicles carry.
Ford protects Taurus buyers with a three-year/36,000-mile warranty. Powertrain coverage on the Taurus
is good for five years or 60,000 miles. Ford vehicles are warranted against
corrosion for five years regardless of mileage. So with all this information
given, I'm sure now you're curious as to what it cost to get one of these
babies's. The Taurus starts out at about $25,000 and top out at about $42,000. According to KBB.com, the 2010 Ford Taurus will have a better 5 year resale value than Toyota Camry, Chevy Impala, and Honda Accord.
